Moving Home

Moving home can be stressful and unsettling. You might be worried that moving your Home Broadband service and getting an O2 phone line put in, or reconnected, at your new address could be complicated and even expensive. But it’s really simple and, in some cases, won’t cost a penny.

Before we can place your house move order, we need to know:

  • The date you’re moving out
  • The date you’re moving into your new home
  • The address you’re moving to (we need the full postcode)

Broadband only?

If you’ve got a home phone line with another company, don’t forget to ask them for a ‘SIM’ or Simultaneous Provide number. It's also called an OMR or a LORN. In most cases, if we have this, we can get your broadband live on the same day that your home phone goes live (as long as you give us 5 working days). If you don’t get a SIM number, your home phone line will need to be live before we can order broadband for you.

We’ll need your new home phone number, as well as the things above!

One month before the move

  • Decide on a date
  • Let your bank and credit card company know that you’re moving
  • Register for council tax
  • Book movers or rental van and arrange for friends to help if necessary
  • List people/businesses for updating your mailing details
  • Contact services such as gas and electricity for cancellations and reconnections of services
  • Call us on 0800 230 0202, to let us know that you’re moving. We’ll arrange for the Home Phone & Broadband services in the home you’re moving from to be disconnected on the move day, and arrange for your Home Phone & Broadband services to be connected in the house you’re moving into, to minimise down time. Remember to let us know if your move date changes

Week of the move

  • Arrange mail redirection
  • Mark packed boxes with their contents and final destination

Day of the move

  • Read the meters before you leave
  • On the day of the move, unplug your telephone handset and your O2 Home Broadband box from the telephone socket and electricity plug; keep all of the accessories, such as cables (telephone and ethernet), broadband filters and power lead. Take notes on how everything is connected, you can even use your phone to take pictures.

Your new home

  • Read the meters
  • In the new house, check that your telephone line is working by plugging your telephone handset into the telephone socket and making a call. If you can make a call, connect the O2 Home Broadband box as it was plugged in your other house, and that’s it – you should have access to the internet.

After the move

  • Update address details for any redirected mail.
  • Contact us on 0800 230 0202 if you need any help with O2’s Home Phone & Broadband services.
